Our Photo Album

Pictures taken in and around the north basin of Lake George. We hope you will find them interesting. They might be seasonal, topical or something that just caught our eye. There will be no set time of when they will go in or change. Let us know what you think of this page and enjoy!!

The 188 year old Lake George Steamboat Co. has its principle office at the Steel Pier in Lake George Village. Their ship departures are from this same location and they birth their three vessels at the pier throughout the year, but it is at Baldwin, NY, just south of Ticonderoga at the very northern end of Lake George, where they have their shipyard and the ship way to take care of any maintainence that requires any of their vessels to be pulled out of the water. When the Company decided to build a new excursion vessel to replace the ageing Motor Vessel Ticonderoga they decided that the new vessel would be built entirely in the Lake George basin. It was determined that the design would be a 3/4 scale replica of the steamer S.S. Peter Stuyvesant that used to ply the waters of the Hudson River in the hey day of the river boats. The hull would be built of steel and would be built at the company's ship yard in Baldwin. Finding qualified ship welders in the northeast proved to be a challenge, but Wilbur Dow, the then President of the Company and ever resourceful, found experienced welders from various towns around the northeast, assembled them at Baldwin and began the building of the new Lac Du Saint Sacrement. She was to be 190 ft. in length with a beam of 40 ft. The hull, propeller shafts and rudders would be built at Baldwin , then launched and be towed to the Steel Pier at Lake George Village where all of the final work would be completed. The final work would be extensive such as engine installation, the building of all decks, Pilot House and any of the other superstructure needs plus all of the enterior finishing work that would have to be done to put her in shipshape state of the art luxury class excursion vessel category that she is in today. The pictures below show the nearly completed hull just prior to launching and the steel top side metal support bracing that would be needed at the Steel Pier. They show the day of the launching and the Mohican coming in to make fast for the trip to Lake George Village. The final pictures show the completed Lac Du Saint Sacrement back up out of the water for some minor maintainence. The final picture is back in the water headed south under Record Mountain. Enjoy.
